In Susan Glaspell's best-known play, a murder mystery unfolds in an Iowa farmhouse, exposing the power and invisibility of women's lives in the early 20th century. Glaspell was a leading intellectual, prolific writer, activist for women's suffrage and co-founder of the Provincetown Players, an important institution in the American theatre.
